Classes I teach:

Listening and Audio Analysis for Musicians, Producers, and Audio Engineers

Students learn about active listening and develop the practice of relating the emotional sensation of recorded music with its technical audio aspects. Students are introduced to writing an audio journal as a method for developing better ears and are given frameworks for analyzing digital/recorded music.

Audio Analysis for Researchers

This course is oriented toward musicology researchers to better understand the recording and mixing processes and to hear and analyze audio parameters within a published recording.

Music Production, Recording, Mixing and Mastering

This course is oriented toward audio engineers and musicians who already have a foundation in music production. Its goal is to impart an understanding of the way different audio concepts interrelate, provide a more comprehensive look at audio engineering, and help students break out of their established recording, mixing, and mastering habits.

Folk and traditional popular music offer a beautiful array of stories, melodies, rhythms, poetry, and traditions that are continually being reimagined and given new meaning with each generation. Knowledge of music production and recording can help musicians to share their music, gain control of their “sound” and advance their artistic careers. By teaching free workshops, I aim to help musicians engaged in these traditions to better share their art.
